Mercer University's College of Continuing and Professional Studies
invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Religious Studies, a
non-tenure track, full-time renewable position beginning August 1, 2013.
The position, in the College's department of Liberal Studies, is
based on Mercer's Atlanta campus with teaching responsibilities at the
University's Regional Academic Centers. The Department of Liberal
Studies is an interdisciplinary department offering a B.A. in Liberal
Studies and general education courses in the evenings and on weekends
to students in the working adult programs of the University.
A
record of or demonstrated potential for exemplary teaching of adult
learners at the undergraduate level is required. Additional
responsibilities in the College include: advising students;
participating in
committees as assigned; attending program, departmental, and
College-wide faculty meetings; engaging in scholarly activity;
maintaining the
requisite number of office hours; working collaboratively with
colleagues within the department, the College, and across the academic
units
of the University. The basic appointment is for the traditional
nine-month academic year (seven course teaching load), with the
possibility
of additional teaching in summer.
Established in 1833, Mercer
University is a private, comprehensive institution of more than 8,300
students enrolled in 11 colleges and schools with campuses located in
Macon, Atlanta, and Savannah and regional academic centers located
throughout the state of Georgia.
The successful candidate will
hold a Ph.D. in religious studies or related discipline from an
accredited college/university. Candidates will teach undergraduate
courses including Introduction to Religion, Introduction to Old and New
Testaments, World Religions, as well as interdisciplinary liberal
studies courses. Preference will be given to applicants who have
experience teaching adult learners and who have experience in the
administration of non-traditional academic programs.
